Monochrome Countertop Basket
Details & artisan story
The Monochrome Countertop
Black and white sisal woven together across the entire surface — not striped, not sectioned, but mixed throughout the weave so the two colors create a monochrome texture that shifts and moves depending on where the light hits it. The same principle as the Nirai's middle section, applied to the whole basket. Grey that was never dyed grey.
Then orange handles. The only color in an otherwise achromatic object, sitting on the rim like a decision that knew exactly what it was doing. Against the black and white surface the orange doesn't just contrast — it ignites.
Countertop sizing — 10" x 5". The basket that lives on the kitchen counter, the desk, the bathroom shelf. Shallow enough to see what's inside, structured enough to keep it there.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep from prolonged moisture. Each basket is unique — the distribution of black and white fibers throughout the weave will form its own pattern in every piece, so no two surfaces will read the same way in the same light.
10" x 5" — Hand-dyed sisal — Handmade in Machakos, Kenya.
