Cobalt and Natural Entryway Catchall Basket
Details & artisan story
The Cobalt and Natural Catchall
This basket starts with sisal in its natural state — undyed, the color the fiber comes out of the Machakos earth. Then at the top half, cobalt enters the weave. Not as a separate section, not as a stripe, but woven directly into the natural sisal so the two fibers share the same structure. The pattern that emerges is not drawn on. It is the weave itself, made visible by the contrast between what was dyed and what was left alone.
Natural below, cobalt and natural together above. The basket doesn't change color so much as it gains complexity as it rises.
Entryway sizing — 10" x 5". The right scale for keys, mail, the small things that need somewhere to land when you walk through the door. Shallow enough that nothing gets lost at the bottom.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep from prolonged moisture. Each basket is unique — the pattern formed by cobalt and natural sisal woven together will shift in every piece, because the intersection of the two fibers is never exactly the same twice.
10" x 5" — Hand-dyed sisal — Handmade in Machakos, Kenya.
