Nungwi Beach Tote
Details & artisan story
The Nungwi
Named after Nungwi — the northernmost tip of Zanzibar, where the Indian Ocean meets itself and the light does something particular to everything it touches.
This bag is built in layers. A narrow black band at the top, quiet and structural. Then red, wide and unhurried, taking up the most space because it has earned it. Then a brief band of earth brown — chocolate and warm, the color of Machakos soil after rain — small enough that you almost miss it, present enough that you'd notice if it wasn't there. Then black again at the base, slightly wider than the top, anchoring everything above it.
Four colors. No wasted section. The proportions were decided by someone who understood that restraint and confidence are the same thing.
Black leather handles. Dark enough to let the weave lead.
12" x 12". The largest bag in the range. Serious enough for a full beach day, a weekend away, a market that got out of hand.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep from prolonged moisture, store somewhere dry. Each bag is unique — the proportions of each color band will shift slightly between pieces, because those boundaries are woven by hand.
12" x 12" — Sisal and leather — Handmade in Machakos, Kenya.
