The Mustard Textured Storage Basket

Mustard — warm, deep, the color of the Machakos highlands in dry season when the grass has given everything to the sun. At 12" x 12" it carries that color with enough presence to change a corner of a room.

The texture is not incidental. This is a raised weave — the surface has dimension you can feel before you fully see it, built into the structure rather than added afterward. It catches light differently at different times of day, which means the basket is not quite the same object in the morning as it is in the afternoon.

The shape is worth noting. Where most storage baskets are straight-sided, this one tapers — wider at the rim, narrowing toward the base, the silhouette of something that grew rather than something that was manufactured. It stores blankets, toys, the usual things. It also holds a plant, for the room that wants both.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Keep from prolonged moisture. Each basket is unique — mustard dye absorbs with natural variation across sisal fibers, and the raised texture means the surface will read slightly differently in every piece.
